Foto-February – Day 9 – Salute To The Sun
It is no surprise how enamored earlier civilizations were with the sun. The Egyptians, the Mayans, etc.
It seems likely to me that most people have at least some symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). During the shortest days of the year around here (in December), I start to long for bright, sunny days. Even though the days are getting progressively longer now, it is technically our “rainy” season, and it’s grayer many days. And I definitely feel better when it’s brighter. My “symptoms” definitely don’t rise to the level of “disorder” but I do feel the effects of less sun.
During the more stressful times of my career, it was almost mandatory that I took a vacation in a sunny, warm place right around now. Fortunately, now I can easily withstand a slight melancholy without having to medicate it with a trip to Cancun.
Foto February will be a combination of photo-only posts and full-blog posts throughout the month.
I get the “blahs” around about now or even earlier. On advise of my Dr. I take extra VitD and that helps! Also have a full spectrum light I sit under to knit, read etc. and that helps too. The days ARE getting longer, sunset is 5:30 now, an hour and 15 min later than Dec, and that really helps!
