Mannequin Parts at Flea Market

Foto-February – Day 17 – Body Parts

As a gay man there have been times where body parts seemed more important than the person owning them.  Mine and others.

Objectifying Body Parts

I know this World puts a lot of emphasis on physical looks.  And for a while, I had no problem taking advantage of that…even when it came to my blog.

Remember the knitted underwear photo shoot?

I still get google hits on the blog because of this.  God!  That was 16 years ago.

But these days, I prefer to hope that blog readers prefer to know more about me. Or my knitting. Or my views on LGBTQ issues.

At the age of 60, I am very grateful for the looks I have remaining.  Also, for how healthy I feel.  I’ve also gotten a bit more self-esteem. So, I don’t feel I need to rely on looks and/or being objectified to feel of value.

My spiritual guru these days said that he was focusing on that part of him that will continue on past when his physical body is gone. I really like the way he expressed that.  It could mean anything from the legacy we leave behind, our writings or artwork, the memories of others.  Or, it could mean our spirit or soul. If you believe in that.

Current Knitting

So, having finished the Sports shorts by Stephen West, I am quite pleased with how they look and feel.

Such a nicely designed pattern that shape well.  The drawstring also helped by allowing me to make a size larger than I normally would and not have an issued keeping them up.

Here is the progress I’ve made on Fox Paws (if you’ve gotten this far into the blog entry).

It’s about 32″ long so far…a little past halfway finished.

Foto February will be a combination of photo-only posts and full-blog posts throughout the month.
