A Good Fingering Weight Yarns

A Good Fingering

Clearly my stash has been developed based on one idea. I might at any time need a good fingering weight yarn. So I best be prepared!

How To Enjoy A Good Fingering

You know, many of my designs use fingering weight yarn. I love working with them.

So, it’s natural, that when I’m in a yarn store I’ll look for fingering weight yarns first. Or at a fiber festival. Or even when I see an on-line store has them on sale.

I didn’t realize I had collected over 500 hanks/balls/skeins of fingering weight yarn. Some of my friends in the circular sock machine world might even call me a small player in this world. But honestly even I was surprised by how much I had in my stash.

While I was working on my current shawl, I needed to start the second hank of Djinni Sock in colorway “Fireworks.”

I couldn’t find it. And I had JUST seen it days before, so I knew I had it. Going to bed that night, I remembered I had stored a lot of fingering weight in a cedar chest, so I would look there first thing the next day. No luck. I ended up dumping all of my fingering weight yarn out of its various hiding places. Sorting it by brand and color. And then it occurred to me how much of this yarn I owned.

I did find the second hank of yarn. But I also found I could at least temporarily stop searching for great fingering weight yarns.

Current Knitting

I’ve been focusing only on the Primordial Sworls Wrap. Both the project itself, and tweaking the pattern.

Both are nearly ready. I’ve also prepared a video tutorial on how to knit the sworls. I’m debating on whether to finish it with 10 repeats about about 15″ wide after blocking, or break into a second black/yellow ball of yarn to make it 20″ wide. I’m thinking I’ll make it 20″ wide and let knitters decide if it’s worth four balls of fingering weight yarn!

As soon as I finish knitting this wrap, I will photograph it for the pattern and publish it to Ravelry.

  1. I have a lot of fingering yarn, too, and it can be eye-opening to get it all in one place. Even though mine is now stored together, I find that taking it all out and re-sorting it is a reminder that, yes, I have a lot, and wow, a lot of it is blue! Maybe buy a different color some of the time…
