Let Down By My Stash - Yarn Re-Organization 06-16-21 01

Let Down By My Stash

Many of you know that I have quite a bit of yarn. But I’m sure even yarn store owners can’t always find exactly what they need. Recently, I was let down by my stash.

What Lack of Yarn Now?!? How Could I POSSIBLY Be Let Down By My Stash?

Perhaps I was being too particular? I could probably have chosen a yarn in my stash for an upcoming project. But nothing seemed exactly right.

It’s for a baby blanket for my niece. She’s about to have her second child. Her first child got this beauty.

And the child LOVES this blanket. So my niece asked me to knit another one for her second daughter.

So it had to be machine washable and in a color that wasn’t too close to the color I knit the first one. And it couldn’t be green (at least not green with a lot of yellow in it). No one in my family looks good in yellows and greens.

Turns out that I didn’t have enough yarn that met that criteria in this entire house filled with yarn.

Yes, I was let down by my stash.

Fortunately, I was able to order some yarn that will work.

This is three different colors of PaintBox Simply Aran yarn. And yes, there are 35 balls of it. It’s 100% acrylic. But it seems to have a decent feel to it.

I may actually have a few baby blankets at my Craft Shows at the end of the year. We’ll see.

The Old Shale Bouclé Shawl is finished.

And it’s HUGE.

It turned out to be about 1oo” long and 20″ wide.  A VERY generously sized shawl.

Here’s me in it for scale.

The second one will be less long and wider. But the second one will have to wait until I finish a baby blanket.

  1. You’re not the only one: I can’t imagine that even those of us with, ahem, generous stashes will always have what we need for a big project like a baby blanket!

  2. Hopefully none of them will want to come to the U of Oregon. Green and yellow are the colors here. Lol.

I think you nailed it “not being the same color!”

  3. I’m dying to see the rest of your craft room! I love it, It looks fascinating, from what I can see in the photo. Might you post about the interesting items in there?

  4. Here is a tip from a NICU nurse- try not to make baby blankets in yellow because it can accentuate the look of neonatal jaundice. That would not be flattering for the baby pictures.
Keep the baby’s comfort in mind when selecting the yarn.

  5. Please keep us posted on how the Paint Box yarn works for you.
I for one would like to know as I may need to try it.
    thanks,
    Marcia
