How Many Knitting Nooks?

If you knit anywhere near as much (or more) than I do, you probably have many little knitting nooks. No?

How Many Knitting Nooks In Your Home?

You know…the place with stitch markers/holders, scissors, needle gauges and any other notions you want close at hand? I only have 2.5 prepared knitting nooks.

My main two are my chair for watching television and the couch in my living room.

I don’t do any actual knitting in my craft area. I wind yarn and do other things that are knitting-adjacent. And while I technically knit at my circular sock knitting machine “station”, I don’t hand-knit there. And that craft takes a completely different set of tools and notions.

Many knitters discuss how much space they allocate to their stashes. But how much home space do you allocate toward creating a knit-positive environment?

Current Knitting

I finished the fifth Snug Cowl/Gaiter using all three colors I have in this particular yarn.

I’m very pleased with the result. I will probably end up making more of these at one point in the future. They were originally intended to fit a petite woman or a child. But honestly, they’re kind of a nice, warm, worry and hands-free garment.

I’m glad I documented the simple instructions for these garments. After knitting other things for a while, I will definitely forget the exact particulars.

In fact, I also finished another pair of Rose’s Fingerless Mitts, and I had to refer back to my pattern a couple of times.

Crazy that I can make dozens of pairs and take a brief break and still not have the pattern seared into my brain.

  1. The gaiters are wonderful! The helix knitting is so interesting and I hope to try it one day. Your tutorial is excellent.
I’m not sure I have a knitting nook. Current projects happen in the kitchen. As I look about the space, a mug of crochet hooks is next to a mug of measuring spoons and a jar of DPNs in front of the olive olive oil and vinegars. A can of straight needles is along side the onion bin. My knitting notebook is with my cookbooks. Knitting bags, (store shopping bags) are nestled along side shelves of pots and pans. behind my kitchen chair. And a folding floor lamp is moved from here to there, granting access to the toaster or a drawer cooking gadgets…..
But knitting still happens most days!
    Best wishes for more January!

  2. It’s beautiful, πŸ’–
I have my front room for yarn and knitting, I guess my main would be my chair in the living room, but I also knit in the kitchen round table while I’m waiting for something to bake or watching Stephen prepare food. I also knit on the back patio and sometimes enjoy a nice fire or way outback on the giant slider swing underneath a bright blue skies.
