A Trusted Source

As a knit-blogger, I can not be considered a trusted source of information when it comes to recommending products. With some exceptions.

Find Yourself a Trusted Source

In the last blog entry, LauraRose posed a question about the DyakCraft set of interchangeable needles:

“…can you tell us more about the needle set? How do they connect etc?”

Yes, but I want to be clear about something first. For years, I’ve seen posts about DyakCraft needles and I wasn’t sure if they were worth the price. I also didn’t know Tom and Linda Diak at the time and I hadn’t found someone who could vouch for them. The only reviews I ever saw was talking about how beautiful they were.

When Linda approached me about bringing their needles to our latest Men’s Spring Knitting Retreat, I wasn’t sure. I first asked a trusted source who knew them personally. He assured me that I definitely wanted them there. Then when I saw the needles and the way they attach, I wasn’t certain.

At the retreat, something quite extraordinary happened. Three of my most trusted sources for knowledge of knitting, yarns and tools came out as avid DyakCraft needle users. They didn’t just have one set…they had multiple sets. And they LOVED them. Their approval of these needles made it a no-brainer that I wanted a set. That is the reason I purchased them. They also happen to be gorgeous.

In direct response to LauraRose’s question, the tips are screwed on manually. The tips have the receptive side of the connection and the cables have the protruding part.

There is now rubber-gripper to help tighten. There is no horizontal hole through the stem of the cable connection to leverage a tighter connection either. I haven’t seemed to need either to keep my current tips securely tightened.

They also have caps that can screw onto the end of the cables to allow you to knit back and forth or to just secure your stitches when you won’t be working on a project for a while.

Current Knitting

I’ve made progress on both the second sleeve of the pullover and also on the helical-striped sock.

I realized I have no photo of the sleeve. But you can see that I’ve turned the heel on the second sock. Soon I’ll have the same amount knit on both socks and I can switch to a different color darker yarn at the same place for both sock.

I’ll try to get a sleeve update photo by Friday.
