No No No!
It’s rare that I get to a certain point in a project and just say to myself, “No, I must start again.”
No No No – Twice!
I don’t have much issue with pulling out a sock that isn’t to my liking. I know there were a lot of folks that really liked the colors. For the latest helical-striped sock, the gauge was off. The fabric was too loose. I wear through toes and heels of handmade socks much more quickly when it’s a loose gauge fabric. I also didn’t like the way the one yarn was pooling and striping. I’m hoping that changing the needle size and gauge will distribute the colors a little better around the tube of the sock.
But then I realized I needed to start over with the Under the Harvest Moon lace shawl as well!
I rarely say this, but the second chart in this project was kind of kicking my ass. After about the third time I had to fudge the stitch-count in a row to make it work, I figured I just had to start over.
Fortunately, I know a bit more about this lace design and I also have a clearer head now that I’m over a cold.
You’ll note how quickly I’ve been able to recoup my lost knitting below.
Current Knitting
I’ve made quite a bit of progress on re-starting both projects. On the helical-striped sock, I’m back to where I was before ripping and even a little further.

The fabric is much better and even the pooling and striping is better at this gauge.
And on the lace shawl…

…I’m just re-starting the second chart and it’s a bit easier so far (knock wood!).

Have you ever looked at JC Briar’s stitch maps? They work great for lace. The wish more pattern would use them.
ps loved the sweet article about jointers the last post. Serious respect to those servers.
