I’m Heading Back!

For those of you who have read my book, you’ll know that being at Easton Mountain brings me great joy. Just found out I’ll be heading back in August!

Heading Back to my Happy Place

Easton Mountain retreat center allows me to rent out the entire property whenever I host a Men’s Knitting Retreat up there. But they also host their own retreats. Their three big flagship retreats are:

  1. Gay Freedom Camp
  2. Bear Your Soul
  3. Gay Spirit Camp

There are also a number of other retreats either hosted by Easton Mountain or rentals by various other groups. And if you’ve never been there, it’s quite an extraordinary place. Here’s a short video montage you may have seen before.

It turns out that Easton Mountain celebrates authors within their community at their Gay Spirit Camp retreat and they’ve asked me to attend as one of three featured authors this year. I will get to read an excerpt from the book. They’ve also asked me to present a workshop about anything I’m passionate about. I couldn’t be more excited.

I’m also a little nervous. The Men’s Knitting Retreat community is reliably amazing every time we’ve convened. But this community is one that I don’t know and one that I don’t have much ability to influence before the event. Much of the excitement and joy of the Men’s Knitting group starts with communications beforehand. I’ll look forward to seeing what I can do to foster excitement with this new community. And also to compare the two in ways that I might be able to make the Men’s Knitting Retreats even better.

Any of you GBT guys care to join me in August at Easton Mountain?

Current Knitting

I am still considering myself stalled on the Under the Harvest Moon Shawl.

I have tinked back to the end of Chart 4. This included removing a dozen or so beads, so it was a bit of a slog. I currently have two extra stitches somewhere in the last row. In addition to figuring out where I added two extra stitches and fixing that, I also need to figure out how I made such a big mistake on the first row of Chart 5. It’s going to take a lot of review, calculations and analysis before I get back to actually knitting this project.

Despite how absorbing the shawl project is, I was able to make a little progress on the latest helical-striped sock.

After knitting three pairs of these, you’d think I’d know the exact number of rows I need in the foot and cuff. But alas, I have to review previous socks each time. B.J. is right, this will be a beautiful pair of socks when it’s finished.

  1. So very happy and excited for your return to Easton Mountain, and as an author! Best wishes for your workshop. Look forward to hearing about what it will be.
On another note. Jay Vogel and his husband have moved to New Haven! I’m looking forward to meeting Jay in person at some point and knitting together. Thanks for bringing us together through your men’s knitting zoom!
Your socks and shawl look fantastic.
Best wishes for the hot weather you love. It’s in the 50’s right now in Reykjavik. I wanna to to Iceland!

  2. Have a great time:)! I’m going to a retreat with a new group this September and though I have a little nervousness about new folks, it’s always fun to meet new knitting friends, isn’t it?
Hope it’s all you hope it to be and many congratulations on your book. I’ve enjoyed reading it:)!

  3. Best wishes on experiencing a new retreat, Joe. Once I put together the dollars, I would far prefer to join your glorious troupe at Easton Mountain, but would sure like one of the caps pictured! Please share photos.
