Travel Project - Helical Striped Sock - 07-07-25 01

Travel Project

I’m heading up to spend some time with my mom for the first few days of this week. So I needed an easy travel project.

Not Travel Project

The KAL lace shawl I’ve been working on is clearly not a good one to travel with. Beads, microscopic crochet hooks and fine, snaggy yarn in a loose-gauge, lacy fabric suck for packing and carrying around. Never mind that I’d need to concentrate a lot to keep working on that project.

So you’ll see below, that I decided to work my knitting-fingers to the bone and finish up the Under the Harvest Moon lace shawl before I left.

Not only is it a bad travel project, but when I get on a roll with a project, I can kill the momentum with a few days not working on it. I mentioned in the last blog entry that the row-stitch counts in the pattern are wrong in the final chart. So I’ve also created a corrected table of stitch counts for that chart. And I wanted to get it all finished while it was still fresh in my brain.

It was also very nice to have such a large part of my brain freed up to think of other things.

Current Knitting

While I have finished knitting the Under the Harvest Moon Shawl, I still need to finish it.

I will obviously have to weave in two ends and wash/block the shawl. I’ll do that when I get back home later this week.

Also, you can see the beading (which I only did for the final chart) adds virtually no visual enhancement to the design.

This is pretty much what I expected, but it does give the shawl’s outer edge a bit more weight, which I think will enhance the drape of the shawl when it’s all finished.

Barb and B.J. will both be pleased that I’ll be finishing the current helical striped socks while I’m at my mom’s.

  1. Congratulations on finishing that shawl! Excellent perserverence. If it was me it would be stuffed in a bag and then stuffed in my “wip” box where things go to slowly degrade. I bet you don’t even have one of those. If you do, bet I’m not the only one who would love a post about it! Have fun with your mom. I try to remind myself how lucky 🍀 am to still have mine around (I’m 55) even when she drives me a little bonkers. Hope yours is doing well. ♥️

  2. Travel safely, Joe. Which mobile project did you decide to take with you? Cheers and hugs to you.
