Unfinished But Done!
My current pair of socks is unfinished but done. The knitting part is unfinished. The pattern part is done!
Unfinished But Done – The Story of My Life
Second sock syndrome, weaving in ends, sewing up…all items I normally don’t mind at all. But as I note in the Introduction to my book, “Joe gravitates toward the more enjoyable aspects of his job.”
I really wanted to be completely finished with all things socks by the time I blogged today. But I couldn’t quite make it to the top of the second sock. You’ll note in “Current Knitting” below that I’m almost finished.
But I did finish the pattern for the socks and the companion video! So it is available to anyone interested. The video has a bunch of techniques that you can link to directly:
- 02:15 – Judy’s Magic Cast-On (with a small modification)
- 05:20 – Toe Increases (KFB/Knit into the front and back of st, Left and Right-leaning Invisible increases
- 07:27 – KFB / Knit into the front and back of stitch (and where to place the increase) – only done on the first increase round of the toe
- 12:31 – Right-leaning Invisible Increase (InvIncrRight)
- 14:07 – Left-leaning Invisible Increase (InvIncrLeft)
- 21:49 – Helical striped knitting
- 34:40 – German Short-Rows and rounded-heel short-rows
- 01:01:57 – Fold-over hem
Since I use a mini version of the toe-up sock, you will need the pattern if you want the total number of stitches and gauge, etc. I am so grateful for the four guys who test-knit the pattern. It is a much better pattern as a result of their efforts.
Current Knitting
I got pretty close over this past weekend to finishing the second sock.

I sewed up the folded hem on the first sock and got pretty close to the top of the second sock. It’s a good thing that I like these socks so much. It will make me want to finish the last sock even more than I normally would be.

You and I have exactly the opposite problem. Your pattern is done but the knitting isn’t and my knitting for my next pattern is done but the pattern isn’t.
I’m so pleased to have your sock design and I thank you for making it available. Your choice of colors for your projects is always appealing and I’m moving out of my single color comfort zone as a result.
