Autumn Lows
Many people love the Fall. The cooler weather after a sweltering Summer is their relief. For me, it’s a case of the Autumn lows.
Dreading Winter – Autumn Lows
The leaves are starting to turn colors and drop off the trees. The weather is getting cooler. There’s the rich, earthy smell of dampness on the trails where I bicycle. It’s getting closer to sweater weather…the ideal time for knitters, no?
But there are also the darker, shorter days. I find not being able to take photos for the blog in the morning kind of annoying. Though I find the days to be gloomier with less sun. Today was a rainy day here as well, which compounded an already dark morning.
I know I should be more in-the-present, but Fall always reminds me that Winter will soon be here. Being here now isn’t as easy. My current reading (Edmund White’s, A Boy’s Own Story) has a melancholy tone to it. Or perhaps that’s just seeing his writing through the filter of my own mood.
I will work to focus on the things I love about this time. Bicycling, Thanksgiving and even pumpkin pie spiced anything. I may even splurge and buy myself some candy corn.
Current Knitting
I was able to finish test-knitting the extended chart for the Tipsy Tiles Scarflet.

Unfortunately…

…I won’t have enough yarn to finish the extended scarf. So I’ll have to rip back about 80 rows to eliminate one of the repeats.
Honestly, I’ve known about this since Monday after weighing my yarn at what I hoped would have been the halfway point. It was a quite a bit less than I need. Off to the frog pond.

I’m with you re. fall/winter. I am a spring/summer person. I like the light and warmth and color. Sigh.
Ah, good folks, please remember that autumn is like a true new year: the start of the school year; new seasons of theatre, opera, and ballet; the release of many new books and films. Perhaps the sense of renewal stems from my Jewish cultural upbringing as Rosh Hashanah, a few weeks ago, is a new year. Soooo, Happy New Year, everyone!
I just “redesigned” a scarf of much the same shape. I had weighed it carefully throughout not to end up with a stubby end … to no avail. The recipient said she liked it that way and was eager to have it so I just bound it off. Every time I see her wearing it I cringe.
