Exquisite Self Care

A friend of mine often notes that exquisite self care isn’t about indulgent behavior. It’s about taking really good care of yourself.

My Methods of Exquisite Self Care

Clearly, a dental check-up isn’t exactly indulgent behavior for most people. But when I feel the least in-control of some aspects of life, I focus on those things that keep me at my best. Keeping up on my physical, mental and emotional well-being also keeps me focused on gratitude for those aspects of my life over which I do have some control.

Dental Check-ups – In addition to making sure my dental health is as good as it can be, I am also more diligent in my daily flossing, brushing, water-picking, etc. I also really like my dentist. He’s helped me keep good oral hygiene as I get older. And for you young’uns, it really does get a lot more difficult as you age.

Physical Upkeep – I am extremely glad that we live in such a great place for biking. I’m also quite glad that Thaddeus and I both enjoy biking so much.

Mental Health – Each day, I play a couple of word games that help me work the gray matter. I also enjoy Sudoko most days.

Emotional Health – My regimens for expanding my emotional health are too personal to discuss on the blog, but I do a lot in this area as well. Even in my mid-sixties, I’m still growing emotionally and will foster that as much as I can.

I can’t always choose the ideal circumstances I’d like to have around me. But for those aspects of my life over which I have some level of control, I plan on exercising that control as much as I can.

Current Knitting

Part of both my mental and emotional health are tied into my knitting. Despite that, I haven’t quite finished the scarf I’m working on.

I finally got it to 5.5″ wide, which is my goal. So I only have a row or two more before the bind-off.

One thing I like a lot of about this version of the horizontally striped garter scarf, is the i-cord edges at each end.

It will look a bit more uniform after blocking it. And it also does a great job of hiding the unused yarn that I carry up the side edge as I change colors.

  1. Joe, you are cute AF in these photos, and I unashamedly flirt with you on the ethernet (hey, we’re both married to wonderful husbands). I’ve been with an excellent dental practice these two years and am far more consciously taking care of my teeth and gums, though not nearly so as you! Self-care is exquisite.

The scarf is lovely and inspiring. Please let me recommend the patterns of David Van De Kamp. I follow him on IG and have purchased many of his patterns, and have even knit a few. Highly recommend, in fact. His Golden Weaver Shawl is one of the most satisfying knits I made this year.

I think I’m something of a pattern hoarder.
