Indulgent Behaviors
A friend often makes the important distinction between self-care and engaging in indulgent behaviors.
Indulgent Behaviors or Self Care
I have a sweet tooth. And as I’ve gotten older, I really don’t tolerate sweets as well as I used to. So I don’t often indulge in satisfying a craving. But every once in a while a craving is insistent. I can usually say “no” to a craving two or three times. But if it won’t stop, I will sometimes give in and indulge.
One of my guilty pleasures is candy corn. I don’t want anything other than the classic. No stripe of chocolate-ish in my candy. No pumpkin shapes. Just plain old candy corn. The craving for these little nuggets of joy can usually be ignored until the Halloween season is over. But not this year. So I picked up a bag at the grocery store.

With no regret, I enjoyed the 1.2 pounds of candy over the course of the last week or two. I wish I had known I could have gotten them in individual snack-size packets. When it comes to candy, I’m not very good at determining serving size.
But my aging system survived. I have recovered from my sugar hangover and all is good.
My next craving is Thaddeus’ apple pie. I think he’s going to have to make one for me soon.

Regarding the recently finished Garter-Striped Scarf, Fred G. asked, “Who’s the lovely new scarf for, or is that too nosy?”
The scarf was made as a birthday gift for a friend of mine and he just received it this past weekend. His wife reads QueerJoe, so I held off answering this question until now.

Thanks to the sugar-rush, I was able to finish the top part of another Bindle Hat.

Possibly also because of the sugar-rush, I joined the edges (using 3-needle bind-off) on the wrong side. So I had to undo it an re-do it from the correct side.

I’ve only just started the ribbing for the headband. My joy of making these colorful hats hasn’t waned and I definitely have enough 4-strand yarn to make at least one more hat.

My son loves candy corn, so on November 1, I always buy 6-8 bags of it and stash it. When he does something particularly helpful, I pull out a bag and give it to him. In August, when I was running low on the sweet bribe, he helped clear a neglected part of the yard and after he was finished, he waited for a while and then asked where was his reward. He is 54
Have you ever tried mixing candy corn with dry roasted peanuts? It cuts down on the guilt a little because it adds some protein! Delicious!
