There Is An Afterlife

I know I may lose a few of my secular or atheistic readers. But I am certain there is an afterlife, and it should be important to all of us.

Live As If There Is An Afterlife

The reason I know there is an afterlife is that I’ve experienced it. We’ve all experienced it. When someone dies, their memory, their legacy lives on. No? And technically, that all happens after life for that person.

I know Trump isn’t dead yet. But his comments about Rob Reiner made me really think about how I wanted to be remembered after I died; what I wanted my afterlife to look like.

Can you imagine the contrast between how most of us remember Rob Reiner and how most of us will remember the piece of shit that currently occupies the White House?

Rob Reiner

  • An extraordinary storyteller who brought characters, movies and actors to life for millions of people.
  • Created films exploring universal themes of love, friendship, ethics, and morality.
  • Influenced generations of filmmakers and fans.
  • Represented and advocated for the common man. Passionately fought for those who could benefit the most from his advocacy, and did it all with amazing humility and grace.
  • Made this world better than it would have been without him.

Donald Trump

  • A fraudulent grifter who convinced millions that hate and divisiveness was more important than love and community.
  • Failed businessman who had everything handed to him by his father and could only succeed by cheating and scamming people.
  • Encouraged and promoted the worst and most deplorable groups.
  • Only did anything because it was self-serving.
  • Damaged this world more than anyone else in my lifetime

Suffice it to say, when I die, I want my afterlife to be some of the most fond and loving memories from those I care about.

Current Knitting

I made some additional progress on the fingerless gloves.

It’s been a couple of years since I last made a pair of these gloves. I’ve made two slight modifications that are making a difference in the finished product. The first change is when I cast on stitches between the fingers, I knit into the back of the stitch on the first round. It makes for a much neater edge. Since this edge is used to pick up stitches for the next finger, it looks a lot neater. The second change is the bind-off on the tops of the fingers. I’m using a tubular bindoff. It looks messy in the photos, but after blocking, it will be a nicer, cleaner edge.

  1. I am so thankful you wrote this post. I live in Canada and I can not imagine having a leader like Trump. He insults the most positive humans who have tried to make this earth a better place.

I am quite sure Trump will have his judgement day and we will not be saying — May God help him.

  2. Couldn’t agree with you more, Joe! What an embarrassment he is to our country – a flawed, imperfect place, trying so hard to do right – that has always taken steps forward and back in the fight for democracy, equity, and freedom – and now… what a dark time he represents. The only thing that makes sense right now is that if you see how he was in clips from 2015 and now, you can see he has become embittered and more narcissistic in his outlook. And very probably suffers from dementia – hence the complete lack of decency and self-control. In my opinion, he’s a tool for others who use his mental illness to their advantage. I believe the real plan was for JD Vance to be President so that the Peter Thiels of this world can really run things. I truly hope I am wrong.

  3. Thank you Joe for posting this. I have been so upset since hearing the news; he was here for my whole life -I remember the moment when Archie Bunker opened the door and saw this bedraggled hippy standing there. I follow several blogs and no one is even mentioning him. I knew you would, tho, and that you would say the right things. So – thank you.

  4. Oh, Joe, with tears in my eyes, thank you for so beautifully stating these life ledgers. Also, a hearty thank-you to Diane, Marion, Joan, and Donna for their comments. As my husband frequently says in times of deep emotion, “Ditto!”

  5. You sure haven’t lost me! The meaning of afterlife differs for many, but even if it is “just” one’s legacy, what one does in life counts in the balance. I didn’t “get” all in the family when I was a kid, if I had known it was “Meathead’s” show, I think even then I would have understood better. All o knew was I didn’t like Archie!
