All About Hats

Lately, my knitting life has been all about hats. And I think that trend will continue for a little bit more.

QueerJoe is All About Hats

When I made a bunch of the Bindle hats, I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do with them. Fortunately, visiting family over the holidays, they seemed eager to take them off my hands. I was glad they seemed to like them as much as I did.

Looking forward to May, and the 2026 Men’s Spring Knitting Retreat at Easton Mountain, I wanted to be able to offer any of the staff or volunteers a knitted hat. The co-coordinator has done this a number of times in the past. So I’ll check with him if he’s planning on making any to bring with him.

The difference in head shapes and preferences for color and shaping in a hat is surprisingly large. While I love the shaping of the thermal crochet beanie, I think I’ll make some different styles as well. I think I’ll make a few using QueerJoe’s Simple Hat pattern, or at least something similar to that shape. I’ll probably work with some more muted colors than neon for a bit.

Anything left over, I’ll take the advice of a reader and donate to Knit the Rainbow.

Current Crochet

I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to finish the latest Thermal Crochet Beanie in time for today’s blog.

Then this morning, I pushed through to finish it.

I’m quite pleased that the designed plan worked out so well. Although I do think some folks might ask where the propellor is for the top of this hat given the color scheme.
