Look Forward To

Look Forward To

A title that ends in a preposition. What would my English teachers think? But as a retiree, heres what I look forward to.

What I Look Forward To

Don’t get me wrong…I love my house. It is perfect for me and for Thaddeus. Buying this place was one of the best things we ever did.

But I also really enjoy the times when we get out.

Eating Out

Thaddeus and I both cook well. He’s an incredible meal planner and grocery shopper. I have gotten pretty good with a wok and making really good rice. Despite that, we have a couple of places we really enjoy eating at outside the house.

Cross Culture – Cross Culture in Buckingham (Holicong), PA is an exceptionally good restaurant for Indian food. We judge an Indian restaurant by a few items. A good salt lassi, the quality of their naan, and a few dishes like lamb saag and navratan korma. Most of their dishes are on the richer side, which is exactly what I look for when I’m eating out.

Nomad Pizza – Nomad Pizza in Lambertville, NJ is a good local source of wood-fired/brick oven pizza. In this area, there are so many options for every preference in pizza, but Nomad hits the spot for us. I mostly like their toppings, especially their spicy sausage.

Shopping

Costco – I love shopping at Costco. We usually hit the Costco in Flemington, New Jersey once every two or three weeks. You will never not find me looking forward to going to Costco.

Pampering

Haircuts – I love our barber and I love his barber shop. Handsome New Hope is about a mile from my house. This place is the ultimate in masculine pampering. Reminiscent of everything from boyhood until now, I feel like I’m swathed in a soothing hug every time I’m there.

Visiting friends and biking are also two activities I love. I’m grateful to have a very full life…full of so much enjoyment.

Current Knitting

I mentioned at the end of last week that I’d be continuing to knit hats for a bit. Here’s what I did over the weekend.

The first one is a simple hat (based on my design, QueerJoe’s Simple Hat) in Noro Kureyon.

The second hat is also using a Noro yarn (Kureopatora).

I’m alternating rows (using helical striped knitting) with a black yarn (Woolease of all things).

  1. Speaking of prepositions, you might enjoy:
“The Mother Tongue: English and How It Got That Way” by Bill Bryson. The whole preposition mess was started by a pendant that thought English should function like Latin (since Latin infinitives are a single word, the to+verb should function together; things went downhill from there). Bill names names!

    1. Yes, Tom! I also recommend the Bryson book. Recently, other folks who study such things have reported exactly what you so succinctly put.

Queer Joe readers unite: end your sentences with prepositions without fear! With abandon!
