We Have Sock!

When I write, “we have sock,” technically it should be we have a mismatched pair of socks. Regardless, I really love how two techniques make this pair unique.

We Have Sock Completion

I did a lot of knitting to finish up the second sock in the pair of helical-striped socks.

It’s not often that I forgo having a “Current Knitting” section. But it sometimes happens when the main topic of the blog entry is the knitting content. No spinning progress to report since Wednesday either.

Overall, I’m quite pleased with how they turned out. Given that I had quite a bit of yarn left over after finishing the second sock, I probably should have made the cuff higher. But I’m happy with them just as they are.

What I’m most happy about is the short-row toe on this pair.

Two Techniques Create an Interesting Effect

Specifically, I love how the striping “bends” off the foot and separates the toe into two sections.

This effect is caused by the combination of helical striping and German short-rows. This may be too difficult to envision for those not familiar with short-rows. But German short-rows on a heel or toe really need to have a plain knit row or two in between the first section and the second section. This short-row toe has three rows knit plain in between the sections, and since I’m doing helical striping, two of those rows are black stripes and one is the lighter stripe.

The heel has only one black stripe separating the two short-row sections. I like that too, but not quite as much as I like the three-row striped method.

Thoughts?

  1. That toe is so cool! And they look pretty well matched when they’re on your feet. A great pair of socks!
