Since I’m right on schedule with the Tour de Fleece, I have decided to keep on going and turn da fleece some more. Or spin yarn, if you will.

Continuing to Turn da Fleece

Often non-knitters will remark how meditative it must be to knit. For me it’s not. I am more of a competitive knitter. I’m always looking to make it to the next row, or the next color change or the binding off.

Spinning on the other hand is quite meditative for me. I find the rhythmic busy-ness of my hands and feet to be soothing and peaceful.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s not that I pursue meditative activities over less meditative ones. I just find that knitting and spinning are both different when it comes to the effect on my psyche. I like both quite a bit.

Current Knitting/Spinning

I’m still knitting the keyhole scarves using bulky yarns…including the yarn I just finished spinning.

A friend of mine had a birthday recently, and this Friday, we’ll be taking her out to lunch to finally celebrate the birthday. We used to sell at craft shows together. She sells jewelry and I, my knitwear. She often suggested that I knit the keyhole scarves to sell. I had little interest in making them. Seed stitch isn’t really my thing. But I made a few to see if they’d sell. When all but one of them sold, my friend asked for the remaining one. She wears it a lot. She loves how no-fuss it is and that it doesn’t get in the way of her driving or other tasks she does whilst wearing it.

My friend recently asked me to make another one for her. I made two of them in worsted weight that weren’t very good and she didn’t like them. That’s why I’ve been spinning bulky yarns. I also found some unicorn-colored bulky yarn in my stash, so I’m making another one in bright, striping colors.

So this Friday, I will present her with a few options as a birthday gift. She’s welcome to any or all of them.

As for spinning, I’m working on spinning singles of the dark midnight roving and the teal mohair/Romney roving to ply them together.

This will be another bulky yarn when it’s plied. But I won’t have time to knit up another keyhole scarf with it in time to present it to my friend, so this is just bonus yarn that I’ll figure out what to do with later.
