Zip It
The retreat project plan has a few items still outstanding. I’ll need to zip it up rather quickly to be prepared.
A Big Gay Zip It!
Three weeks from today I’ll be going to the NorthEast Men’s Fiber Retreat at Easton Mountain. Preparations during those last three weeks before a retreat are always a bit hectic, in the best of ways.
Recently, I realized I wanted one of those small pads for tabletop ironing for use at my Expert Table on steeking and sewing in a zipper. While ordering that, I saw these cool rainbow-teeth zippers (feature image) and some other inexpensive opening zippers. So I placed another order for a dozen or so more zippers.
I’m also in the process of making pin-backed buttons for the guys at the retreat. At this point, I should be all set and as usual, overprepared.
Printing name-tags, working up a completed steek/zipper example (to make sure I actually know how to be an expert) and organizing the items to pack are the next tasks to finish up.
Not to jinx it, but I think I’m right on schedule for everything.
Current Knitting
Even my knitting is geared toward the retreat, as I work on the bias-striped scarf.
The finished scarf will go into the knitted/crocheted items donated to Easton Mountain staff and volunteers.
I can be totally focused when I care to be, and for the Men’s Knitting Retreats, I always care to be.
Joe wrote above, “At this point, I should be all set and as usual, overprepared.” And those of us who’ve been here a bit know the drill as the countdown progresses.
Which leads me to something that happened Friday that I hope you enjoy. I use an app that presents me each morning with links to my blog subscriptions by category I’ve defined. With coffee, I look at needlework and tech support. I open those that appeal to me and work my way through.
Friday Joe tempted us with the milk shake appearing drink. I opened the tab and read, “Since coming to Costa Rica, I’ve learned . . . ” I had two immediate clashing thoughts. (1) What in the holy hell is Joe doing in Costa Rica? and (2) HOW COULD HE DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT WITHOUT TELLING US ! ! ! Is Thaddeus there?
Of course, Modern Daily Knitting was in Costa Rica and Joe was safely where we expected him to be. We would have helped him pack. Some of you would have made very good suggestions.
Now we know we’re on the 3 week countdown. I’m too old for shocks like that to my system.
