Blogging was out of commission for a few days because of an issue with my iMac’s fusion drive. You’ll note that it did not stop me from yarning.

Fusion Drive Went Kaput

In July of 2019 I purchased a new iMac for my home computer. It had a Fusion Drive, which is Apple’s proprietary hybrid storage technology that combines a fast but expensive Solid-State Drive (SSD) with a large but slower mechanical Hard Disk Drive (HDD) into a single storage volume.

As it turns out, this type of drive became known for not lasting very long. Mine was no exception. About a year ago, I did a diagnostic on my hard drive since my computer was taking a long time to boot. I was told there was a critical failure that couldn’t be corrected. But at the time, I was angry with Apple’s CEO for licking Hair Füror’s balls. So I continued to use a failing computer.

Last week I decided to try and see if I could repair it, and I ended up wrecking it. Wrecking it so badly I couldn’t even reboot my machine. So I looked for a replacement and decided to go with a MacBook Air.

I wasn’t sure if my old eyes would be able to get used to a much smaller screen (went from 27″ down to 15″). In the first week of owning the new computer, I realize I need a larger screen from my day-to-day work. So I’ll be adding a Studio Display to this. Now I’ll have the combination of portability when I need it, but when I’m at home, I’ll have the same size screen I used to have.

Blog Back in Commision

I could have blogged on my iPad, but I find it a lot more difficult to edit photos on my tablet. So this is the premier blog entry done on the MacBook Air. I’m still getting used to some aspects of it, but overall, I like it very much.

Oh…happy Juneteenth, Pride, Fathers’ Day and Summer Solstice (a lot happened while I was out of commission!).

Current Knitting/Crocheting/Spinning

A lot of fiber-work happened as well. First off, I finished the latest Thermal Crochet Beanie.

It’s like four hats in one because of the different color scheme inside and outside. With just three colors of yarn, I have created a hat that can look quite different depending on how it is worn.

I also finished spinning the mohair/Romney bulky yarn.

It turned out to be about 7 wraps to the inch, which is considered bulky. I was originally going to use it for a key-hole scarf, but while I waited for it to dry (after washing the resulting yarn), I chose a different bulky yarn for the key-hole scarf project.

I’m going to try and finish this and a second one with the teal handspun by this Thursday. We’ll see how it goes.
